However, an experimental accident changed his body so he could only live in freezing temperatures. To survive, he created a special suit that maintained his body at the right temperature and became Mr. Freeze. In order to continue his research for Nora’s cure, Mr. Freeze created a device called the “freezing engine,” which is so powerful that it could freeze Gotham.
